UITA Launches New Peer Forum For Emerging Tech Leaders
First Event Slated for JULY 19
The Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) is launching a new Peer-to-Peer Forum Series targeted to the leaders of emerging technology companies. The Emerging CXO P2P Forum's first discussion, titled "The Ten Do's and Don'ts of a Serial Entrepreneur," is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19, from 3 - 5 p.m. at the law offices of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll at 201 S. Main Street, Suite 600. The event will be led by Wes Swenson, president and CEO of Utah-based Forum Systems. Participants should come prepared to take 30 seconds to introduce their technology companies.
"An emerging CXO is defined as someone who has already made the leap to start a technology business and is working hard to raise money and get things moving," said Richard Nelson, president and CEO of UITA. "Part of UITA's defined agenda is to help develop management talent in Utah. This new series will enable leaders from young technology companies to candidly share their insights and learn from each other as well as proven technology leaders of successful Utah IT companies."
UITA already regularly hosts well-established Peer-to-Peer forums for CEOs and CTOs. The new Emerging CXO P2P series is open to members of UITA, with no additional fees for attendance. More information is available through mark@uita.org.
At the July 19 forum, Swenson, who will serve as co-chair of the new CXO P2P Forum, will share insights drawn from almost two decades of experience in the IT sector. In his current role as CEO, he oversees the corporate management and strategic direction of Forum Systems, a leader in the Web services security industry. He is former chief financial officer of Phobos Corporation, a Utah-based technology company that was acquired in 2000 by SonicWall of Sunnyvale, California (SNWL). Before that he spent over 10 years at Novell Inc, serving in various operational capacities and ultimately as chief financial officer of world-wide sales and marketing during his last four years with the company. After his success with Phobos and before joining Forum Systems in 2001, Swenson acted as the managing member of Blackrock Ventures, an early-stage business consulting company.
