SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, August 11, 2005 – The Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) announced the appointment of J. Stephen Fletcher (State of Utah Department of Technology Services (DTS)), Gary Goodrich (ProPay), and Michael Proper (DirectPointe) as trustees at its recent board meeting.
“To add three technology executives of this caliber to our board will help UITA further build the IT industry,” said UITA president, Richard R. Nelson, “Their wealth of experience adds great insight to further grow our industry.”
As members of the Board of Trustees, individuals are responsible to establish the policy initiatives concerning the business, financial health, and activities of the Utah Information Technology Association.
J. Stephen Fletcher
As Chief Information Officer and Executive Director of the newly-formed State of Utah Department of Technology Services (DTS), Fletcher will review all IT functions in state government for efficiency and productivity, and build an IT service organization matching agency needs to IT solutions. His career has focused on applying technical solutions to business problems. He founded and managed an IT communications consulting firm, providing communications and management services to Federal sector and Fortune 500 companies. He built a start-up firm into a viable engineering firm that provided E-government solutions to federal, state and local governments. He has held senior executive positions at several companies, responsible for daily operations. Steve comes from the U. S. Department of Education where he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management and later as the CIO/CTO. Mr. Fletcher graduated from the University of Utah and has an MBA from the University of Dallas with an emphasis in engineering management.
Gary Goodrich
With 19 years of financial services experience working with large financial institutions, managing various corporate departments, and managing profit/loss responsibilities for corporate divisions, Goodrich has been CEO of ProPay since July 2000. Previously, he served as Director of Sales and Marketing/Sr. Vice President for Sutro and Co. in San Francisco (now Dain Rauscher/RBC). He has also advised public and private technology firms regarding capital markets issues and investments, particularly in Silicon Valley. He worked for several years in New York City and in San Francisco for Goldman, Sachs and Co., as well as four years for K.P/PaineWebber, where he served as a National Director and a Divisional Vice President. Gary's educational background includes a Law Degree and a Masters in Business Administration from BYU. He was named one of the top Utah Venture Entrepreneurs in 2004 by Vspring Capital.
Michael Proper
DirectPointe’s Founder, Chairman and CEO, Proper spent several years working with large and small companies to more effectively leverage technology to run their businesses. As he followed new technologies and evaluated better processes, he gained a vision and passion to make technology easier to use and more affordable - thus he founded DirectPointe. Michael’s passion for customer satisfaction and delivering value is a cornerstone of DirectPointe’s past and ongoing success.
