Utah voters pass Constitutional Amendment 2

Utah Constitutional Amendment 2 – Stock Prohibition, which authorizes the state or a public institution of higher education to acquire an ownership interest in a private business in exchange for rights to intellectual property developed by the state or public institution of higher education, passed successfully in the November 2004 election! 57% of voters cast their ballots in favor of the the amendment, which will allow Utah's private universities to take equity (ownership) in companies that license technology developed on campus as compensation for use of the technology. In addition to Utah, twenty-four states have extended this same benefit to public universities.

Thank you to the Economic Development Corporation of Utah and the Salt Lake Chamber for helping Utah in our information campaign to educate voters about this important economic development measure.
